Just checked out the new iPod, is it a worthy winner or what? It could be useful for demoing music to other people, rather than sending CD-R'S which can be fragile. Any opinions?

What, you're going to send a $400 iPod instead of a $.40 CD-R?

And you are aware that MP3s have been around for years, yes?

It's a cool device, but nothing that changes the way that musicians work.

I just tried an iPod at the new Apple Store that opened yesterday in Farmington,Connecticut. I wasn't very impressed. It sounds good, but CD player sounds better. The iPod was hard to navigate with all the menus/submenus and it was difficult to find certain songs (even the Apple rep demoing it had problems with this). If the thing was $199 instead of $399, that would make it more enticing, but it still wouldn't be pratical. From another POV, I generally like to listen to music from a CD player through my Hafler monitors, I don't have a desire to walk around with ear buds in my ears like some teen-aged kid would. To bad it's too expensive for that demographic.

The Mp3 thing is a bit of a shame as we all know that the quality can be pretty bad but there again, it can be okay with some types of music.

The one thing that people have to consider when buying an iPod is that it doubles as a 5 gig firewire HD. This can't be ignored when purchasing, as a Firewire HD of this size maybe as expensive as the iPod itself. In other words, some people may consider the Mp3 side of it a bonus but the HD facility maybe the main selling point.. I want one...!

iPod's firmware supports wav, aiff, files. The firmware is also upgradable for future file formats, iPod can also boot up a Mac with a OS installed on its hard drive and also supports the transfer of any data file that you care to transfer. The iPod is simply the best in its class (Ie.. iBook, and the TiBook).
