Very nice Bassius! I have to admit, I've always had double bass envy. The tones...the sound...physicality of playing...ahhhhhh...one of these days. Bass in it's purest form...I love it!

My biggest comment is this:
Ever since all of this neck and nerve shit started 12 years ago, I've been lucky when I can play upright at all, let alone with the the higher action that Bassius uses. Which is really within the common range for an upright.
Sure, it gives you the ability for much greater volume and emphasis on tone, and attack, and aids in bowing cleanly, and probably a few other things. But it also takes 2 to 3 times the strength for fingering cleanly, and I'm in retrain-the-muscles mode. I cheat, and drop my adjustable bridge as low as I can get away with for pizz., about 1/4" to 5/16" string heighth at the end of the fingerboard.
I hope some day to play as good as him in that video. :thu:

Thanks guys.
I have a left hand section coming, a scale fingerings section and a pizz performance.
then...arco stuff!

Three points:
1. My desire for a URB has now become a physical need.
2. You've got someone who teaches you? How good must that guy be!
3. Post more. I don't even know what "arco stuff" is, but I feel my life is empty without seeing it. (I just hope it isn't "This is how to change a string!")

I liked the video a lot! Proper URB technique is a huge turn on for me. You could probably cut out the gear stuff out of the video if you wanted.

And like everyone else said, you have created huge amounts of upright GAS, Mr. Bassius.

Very cool. No wankage, just solid information.
I wish URBs didn't start at several thousands for good ones.

Incredible stuff!
Now, if you ever get to a point that you want professional videos, my brother is an excellent freelance vidiographer, mostly trades/commercials/training films/etc., with a few decades experience, and was a bass player. I'm sure he'd do your efforts justice. Just a thought if you go to that level.

I have to add, you seem incredibly comfortable even in the thumb positions. And your method certainly is a mix!
I have no sweat with those positions on a bass guitar. But when I'm on upright, I feel lost somewhat. The plus is my familiarity with them on bg is helping. But, it's certainly not natural yet. And with my neck problems, I just about never pick up the URB any more. Maybe soon, now that things are taming down.
That was damn good

Denson - if you feel like getting into arco, it wouldn't hurt my feelings. Also right-hand technique for double-stops/chords.

For me, it would be techniques to practice to better my slap playing...or any advanced fingering techniques that would make someone quicker or more efficient. From watching your videos there is a lot of cool stuff that you do that you could slow down and examine. I am taking care of the sight reading and learning scales and modes on my own but any insight would also be helpful.
Also fretless playing would be good.

D - do you do much flamenco-ish type stuff, like what Anthony Jackson does? Kind of a thumb/fingers hybrid plucking, chording approach?

Just watched all your vids and I like 'em.
When you were using the bow, I had a vision in my head of an old silent movie! Like Nosforatu (Sp?) or something!:D Must be the sound the bow does of something?
You HAVE to do a few vids with your Conklins, I wanna see them in action so bad!
A quick Q.
How are you getting the sound of the bass into the cam? Using you're Ampegs or what?
Keep them coming and PLEEEAAAAASSSSE do some electric bass ones as well.
I would like to know more about tapping and stuff and getting each hand to act individually? What I mean is to be able to play Manring or Wooten style, where you're left hand is bass, and you're right hand is tapping (not necesaserily tho'!).
I can tap pretty well, but how to incorporate that into a song is where I get stuck.
Also, scales and scale patterns and using a chord to do some 'fills' during the song. As in, like Billy Sheehan, say the key is 'A' and the bass is just doing a simple penatonic scale in A to fill in the gaps. I would like to know how you would go about adding more to the song, to give it some more dynamics in the bass area and how you could use different scale patterns and notes of different chords etc. Make sense?:freak:

I'm playing my URB acoustically...no mics or amps
that's just the bass sound to the cam-mic
