i have an e-machines t3302 and i'm looking for the best sounding recording device that's reasonably priced. i'm using a behringer
mixer and was hoping to get maybe an art mp preamp. But i think an interface with good pre's would be the best way to go.
what do you think? My guitar tone sounds fine, but i'm looking to improve the vocals. (i'm using a shure sm-57.)

two other q's:

is the e-mu 0404 compatible with the t3302?

what's asio?

thanks

Rather than getting a PCi card based audio interface you should consider an external Audio Interface with USB or Firewire (FW). It is easier to setup and more chance it will work with future upgrades. Firewire has more badwidth that translates to less recording and monitoring limitations. If you can afford the FW it is preferable. USB will work fine for most home applications. You can get some Interfaces like Presonus and Mackie/Tapco that have preamps. These also come with software to get you started. PCi is an old technology and most manufacturers are phasing it out in favor of PCIx.
