Hey man, not sure if he still does it, but to get that click sound, Vinnie Paul used to tape (get this) a QUARTER directly to the head behind the kick pad. So your beater hits the pad, the pad clicks the quarter (hence his click sound), and the quarter hit the head. He said the sound guys always hated it, but it resulted in that killer kick sound he had back in the Pantera days. Hope that helps! Nowadays I believe he's playing Pear Eliminators with the plastic beaters...

I have the tama wood beaters on my Iron cobras... I think they are good but they are not very clicky sounding if you ask me.

Vinnie Paul trigged his kickdrums.... BUT maybe he did that quarter thing before he started to trig them.

danmar reds are nice. But you will deff. need a good kick pad. They are fairly masive and can destroy a head that doesn't use one of the thicker pads. Very hard punch sound. The draw back is sinse they are big and heavy, if you are into speed they might not be what you want. Sluggish compared to say tama ic beaters

I use (and have always for 30 years) the Danmar Reds.
I currently use a Remo Falam Patch, but the best combo I have ever used with the reds was a round leather patch. I have not been able to find another leather patch since. (if you find one, let me know!)

Hope this helps.

I use hard felt beaters, and an Evans patch. Sounds pretty punchy to me
