Thats a tight album!! Russ McKinnon seems to be a really good drummer.....and Rocco Prestia is a great bass player but that wasn`t anything new.
They are grooving like hell!!!:D
I`ve never heard of Russ McKinnon before. Weird.
Anyone else digging this album?

Tower of Power is a great band (way better than the reminiscently named Ace of Base), but I haven't listened to them since the Dave Garibaldi days.
Squibcakes, What is Hip, Soul Vaccination. Love that stuff.

Yeah they are great :)
I like that old stuff with Garibaldi too but even this newer stuff and this Russ McKinnon guy really seems to fit the band....I dunno if he´s still playing with them.

This is interesting:
From the drummerworld.com Dave Garbaldi bio:
In January 1998, David Garibaldi rejoined Tower of Power and continues touring with them

Ok I guess McKinnon has quit then :(
Monster On A Leash came out in 1990 or 91.... and McKinnon played on that one.

McKinnon's very good, but for me, Garibaldi IS TofP. And, yes, he is still playing with them after rejoining in the 90s.

My Brothers,
I saw TOP at the House of Blues in New Orleans last year, pre Katrina, and Dave Garibaldi was the drummer.
He was very tight and business like. A drummers drummer!

Holy jeez, I thought I was the only person in the world that had this album! "Leash" is a SICK album, especially "Funk the Dumb Stuff." Russ McKinnon is a tasty little drummer and he did a great job of fitting in with the band during their late `80s phase when it was less soul and more Michael Jackson meets Dr. Funkenstein. the production on that disc kinda gets to me, but the groove for "Dumb Stuff" with the open hat accents are just killer.
And that little splash cymbal joke is priceless: "WE GONNA KICK YO' ::splash choke::!"
This is a great drummer's CD, frankly.

I don`t know anyone else that owns this album :)
Maybe because of Garibaldi not playin` on it.
I like the crazy drum break in "Mr Toads wild ride" too.......and the splash thing you mentioned.
I have a concert on VHS from the "Leash" tour when they played in Finland. :thu:

You lucky, lucky man... Russ himself stated in an interview (I think DRUM! Magazine?) that finding footage of him with TOP is really hard since the band at the time thought they were on their last leg.
Wasn't it Herman Matthews III that picked it up after him prior to David Garibaldi coming back?

Oh I guess I`m lucky then.... they played 6-7 songs(I don´t think they broadcasted their set from the beginning). I remember they played Mr Toads wild ride,Soul Vaccination, Funk The Dumb Stuff,A little knowledge.....and maybe three more.
Yes I´ve done some research now and Matthews got the gig(or maybe took it?)after McKinnon.
