Hi,
Could you all share with me your thoughts, experience, and or links to articles about the pro's and con's to buying an extra hard drive or using DVD-data burning software to back up audio, audio projects (like acid, soundforge, or cakewalk projects) video, and text files (don't want to fool with RAID though)?
Future thanks

Best answer: DO BOTH!
Put your data on a backup drive and then burn another set to DVDs. Put the DVDs in a fireproof bank vault or send them off to Aunt Tillie in another city to hold for you.
"You don't have a full set of backups untill you have 3 sets on different media in different citys."

For backup of ongoing projects, copy 2x to other HDD's. For archiving, we recommend to our clients both a mechanical (HDD) and optical(DVD) method. We put them in airtight containment, and clearly mark the contents. In addition, we clearly mark the date, and recommend (labeling accoridngly) the contents be rearchived every 3-5 years on the current media standard, to ensure compliancy and playability forever.

Didn't your DVD drive come with any??? Very unusual if it didn't.
I use Nero; it's an excellent program....

pretty much they all do.
For the Mac platform, Toast is the leader. For Windoze, many use Nero.
