If you're looking to just play something start with Arban's, Clarke, Rouchue (sp?) or any of the other exercise books or solo books. There are lot's of good stuff out there to read and play. If you're playing bass then pick up some of the bass lines on your bone. That would be some really good ear training exercise. If you're looking for a group to play with start with your local college and see if they allow community members or can point you in the direction of a community band or symphony.

Start with a good warmup. On trumpet, its Stamp/Clarke/Arban studies usually, do whatever the equivalent is on trombone.

Then play your scales-all 12 of the majors-going in either 4ths or 5ths.

Afterwards, play major and minor arpreggios on each scale degree for an octave, say C-C.

After that, take a break.

Once the break is over, check out www.lucaspickford.com and read some of his trombone transcriptions down. Also work in any classical repertoire that you have access to; you can usually get something by checking out the Creative Commons search engine (all public domain stuff on that one).

Spend some time working on anything that you feel is lacking, too-double/triple tonguing, tone, range, scales/patterns, etc.

Warm down properly, starting on a low note and going down chromatically playing long tones.

Repeat every day for a week to see improvement!
