I was listening to some cd's yesterdaytrying to figure out the drum parts and one of the songs i was listening to was a pretty basic beatk, beats one and, there and on the bass and 2 and 4 on the snare, then it went to a fill where they hit the snare and crash at the same time. At that point I wasnt sure if the bass drum was still doing the same pattern or hitting the same time as the snare and crash. Is it more common to hit at the same time or keep the same beat?

(stupid newbie here;) )

Usually during the fill the bass drum pattern either gets more busy or much less busy (just hit on the same beat as the crash). Sometimes it's hard to pick out the bass drum in a mix, do what sounds best to you.

It is typically more common when hitting a crash and snare simultaneously that the kick is not hitting, with the pattern you describe.

If the kick pattern were doing constant 8th notes than it is more typical that all 3 hit simultaneously. However, it is usually more common that you hear a snare-crash on a kick drum off-beat.

Metallica and Queensryche do a lot of those type patterns.
