An experement has turned out to be a success. I had a Milwaukee brand drum set that had an inner ply of maple, and the rest was mahogany. I know, its a strange combo. But anyways, it had a plastic wrap that was warped and wrinkled from excessive heat. I bought it for 250 dollars. I then decided that I would re-wrap it. So, I took off the wrinkled wrap(which was held on by two sided tape) and went to the home depot to find a new wrapping material. I found some real maple veneer that was 1/16 inches thick and bought some rolls of it for 60 dollars. I then cut them to size, glued them to the naked shells, and then stained and laquered it. It looked gorgeous and nearly professional. I turned around and sold it for 500 dollars. I urge anybody to do this if they are looking to recover a cheap set. These veneers should be available at home depot, lowes, or menards.
