Hey!
I used to play the clarinet for a few years but I stopped and just got back into music. My playing is probably shit but I do know stuff about care, maintenence and other stuff.

Is the soprano sax really like a clarinet?

They share a lot.
Keys are a bit different but it's not a very big shift.

Cool. How much do saxes cost anyway?

Soprano saxes aren't going to run cheap for anything nice. I've said it before, but generally Yamaha will be your best bet for a well-made instrument that doesn't cost a bunch, new.

Truly, there are similarities, but it won't quite be the same as picking up a clarinet again. They do function a little differently, just enough that they aren't the same thing. Kinda like French horns and trumpets are similar, but not quite the same.

Okay , One day I will pick up a woodwind instrument again, even if that day isn't going to be anytime soon. Are there any players that play soprano sax as their main instrument , not as a 2nd instrument?

Unfortunately, Kenny G.:freak:

There are some great soprano players out there, but I don't keep up on names too much.

Maybe try hitting up one of the sax builder's sites, and checking out the artists page and click on all the links with a guy playing soprano?
