Hello everyone, first time here.
I was hoping someone could tell me how to put a new speaker in my Fender Blues Junior? Also, any advice on what type might sound the best? A friend told me to get a Celestion Greenback--same size, 8 ohms, 25 watts. Any way, every time I start taking the old one out I panic. Too many screws!

What kind of music do you play/what kind of tone do you want. I suggest you look through the Eminence product guide to get an idea of the tones and speakers available.

FWIW a greenback will have a bright, balanced and open sound with a hint of vintage tonality and early breakup. If you like loud cleans then this is not the speaker for you.

a greenback is a wonderful speaker for fender amps in my opinion.

You could also think about a jensen RI or a weber. Email weber and ask him, I'm sure he'll have some good suggestions.

don't panic, a electric screwdriver will make easy work of taking the screws out. You might try laying the amp face first down on something soft. this way the speaker won't fall as you unscrew it. Then when you replace the speaker, don't over tighten the screws, only make them snug as too tight can warp the frame. Check back after a few days of playing the amp and see if they are still seated well.

When asking, describe your dream sound. What does the blues jr lack in your mind? Do you want more compression, or do you want more headroom and openness? Do you want more bass or treble response? What kind of music do you play? Are you primarly using your amp distorted or clean?

First, check out this site, then look for posts discussing the results: http://home.comcast.net/~machrone/bluesjunior.htm

+1 on the BillM mods. Most folks think the Blues Junior sounds to boxy and try a speaker change. But the tone stack mods ususally make for a better sound.

My Billm modded tweed Blues Junior is my favorite amp and I have many.

Personally I like the Jensen that the tweed Blues Juniors came with stock over the Emminence. I play mostly at my house by myself or with a small bar band. I really have to crank it to keep up with a drummer playing though., though. Raising it up or maybe miking it to a PA helps. Sounds great though.

Best 120 bucks I ever spent was when I mailed my BJ chassis to Bill Macrone. He knows Blues Juniors well.

You might also consider just buying a cab with a different speeaker in it and either combining it with the stock speaker or just plugging it in instead, using the BJ as a head. (Don't worry about impedence...just use a Radio Shack Y adapter and any 8 Ohm speaker over 20 watts...BJ can handle a 4 ohm load)
