Interesting, I wood think Woodstock would be a pretty small market.

Do you have a lot Dylan/Band fanatics come through on pilgramages? Or even just people wanting to drive out to Yasgur's?

I've never been up that way myself.

Not much gawking anymore, but the place has gone yuppy commercial with souvenier shops and clothing botiques.

All but one club is gone, and they don't guarrantee
$$. Most other clubs are spread out around the Hudson Valley.
There is the Bearsville Theater, built by Albert Grossman during the 70's, and now owned and operated by a restruantuer who bought the complex. It has both the theater, and also a large lounge/bar, and has music almost every night, plus many big names coming to the theater. they rent it for 1,250/night, the lounge for 800.

If you want to see Yagur's, it 60 mi. away. The endless line of tourists after the festival, "wanting to know the way", went on for years every Summer.

Back then, there was 5 or 6 clubs having music almost every night. Now, with the Joyus Lake closing two years ago, there's only the Colony that has music and a liquor lic. in town.

anyone out there have any pics of mary lou lord? i got the opportunity to stay with her for a while, shes really cool people, and a great songwriter. she toured with sara mc laughlin. i bled all over her guitar! we were jamming, playing around on acoustic and i got the bright idea to play some heavy metal funky riffs and cut my picking hand all up. when she signed a copy of her cd for me, she said, "i've been near, and i've been far, but this is the first time someone bled all over my guitar" it was funny! i felt bad. i usedf bleach to clean it up, ya know, dont want to pass on any diseases or any5thing.....

No actually, it does. Although she's a former model, she does sing and play guitar and has sold over a million records in France alone.

Which is a heck of a lot more records than I've sold in France or anywhere else.

its pretty small, and we have a TON of stuff crammed in there. our drummers set alone takes up half of the room!, plus i have 3 full stacks, pa system, monitors, recording equiptment, guitar stands, etc. theres no room to move around, but we manage! its in my house. beats paying for a studio, and since i live on about 40 acres, nobody ever complains about noise. besides, i live on a reservation, so its all family. not like i have to deal with nosy neighbors. cant beat it.

fyi, i am a lead guitar player in a progressive death metal band. i have been playing guitar for over 20 years, and i can honestly saty that i can stand up against ANY guy when it comes to playing the guitar. i've worked very hard to make a name for myself in the music industry. all those bimbo beeatches out there that plink a couple of chords and look pretty make it very hard for real female musicians to get recognised in the industry. my hats off to phantom blue, jennifer batten, and all other chicks that can really rock their instruments. i never want to be some slutty bimbo that just looks pretty for the bands image! granted, in my older years now, i've gained weight due to a thyroid problem, but it shouldnt matter what i look like, what i dress like, as long as i can play great and get my music out there for people to enjoy!
and another final point for female musicians not trying to be some freakin sex kitten, ANN WILSON STILL ROCKS!!!!!!!!!! AND SHE IS A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN! i saw her on that tv thing recently and she put it down!!!! shes every bit as good as ever if not better! my props to nancy as well.

theres alot of really good up and coming female talent coming out of killa cali right now. i've had the opportunity to play with some really good female fronted bands. i forget the names, but there were some really good bands out of orange county with kick ass female guitarists as well as singers. we also recently played with a band from san francisco that had 3 chicks in the band. they were all really good, especially the drummer! she blew my mind. my band had a female bassist for a while, but she just couldnt cut it. we were far to progressive for her abilities. i'm sure she'll find another band really soon though, and you'll be hearing about that. i do need to get more of us rocker women on h.c.
i'd also like to meet some other women on this forum. btw, we are going into the studio again next month and as soon as we get the master, i'll try to post some stuff. its just an ep to keep our fans happy while they wait for our full length to be released in march or near that.

Despite the insensitivity of the moronic comment you are responding to there are plenty of pretty male bands out there getting by on not much more than looks too. It must be hard for females to be taken seriously though. On one hand if you aren’t a supermodel or 16 year old pop star you get slagged off at and if you are in the unfortunate position of being talented and beautiful you can be dismissed as nothing but fluff.
I guess I am lucky I am on old, ugly male. Never occurred to me before.

thats the precise reason why i think the industry is complete bullpucky nowadays. for instance, the ozzfest tryouts, my band was personally invited to come down, but they didnt care about our music, they wanted to see the whole band in person. wearing whatevwer we wwear on stage. my drummer screamed bulls34t! all the bands were told to just show up with a demo. but they wanted IMAGE!! i think its crap! its like if you dont wear that stupid emo haircut, your sisters jeans, a t shirt 2 sizes too small and a huge pair of designer sunglasses, they want no part of you! my band is going about this whole thing a different way. we wear what we are comfortable in, we dont care what we look like( our singer is black, i am native american female, our drummer is an old man, and our bass player looks like a church deacon!} its pretty funny. we just play our asses off and do our best to make great music. i think we are noticed because we are so different. nobody can help but notice us. we play 7 string guitars, we have a chick lead guitarist.....and our music is very different. i cant really put it in any genre. i say progressive death metal, but that onjly describes a couple of our songs. we are progressive, but we cover all sorts of different styles from r&b, classical, jazz, metal, folk....a little of everything. we are now looking for a keyboard player. that will be cool. but as far as looks...ah, fuck it! i aint no beauty queen, i refuse to dress like a whore, and i have no respect for women who act like whores! have a little self respect! i am very proud of the fact that i will never be on maury wondering whos my baby's daddy!!!!!!

To be fair what you are saying is a bit hypocritical. On one hand you are doing what suits you. Playing perhaps the anti fashion card. Now if that’s done purely because you don’t see eye to eye with the other style then fine. The women you claim dress like “whores” may be dressing that way because they feel it is right for them. Men are told that just because women dress up and perhaps show off a bit it does not necessarily mean they are doing it for us. So it is fair to say women get pleasure from merely looking good.
If you are playing the anti fashion card because you want to see a reaction or want to make a statement then you are doing no better than those women who dress as “whores” in an attempt to create a similar but different reaction.

Also your style of music from what I gather lends itself to a “fuck it I will do what I like” approach. Rightly or wrongly for a pop singer or even mainstream rock type that’s not really suitable. I don’t know that there is anything particularly wrong with that. You wouldn’t expect a classical musician to go that way. Playing music is performing and performing is interacting with an audience. You have to play to the audience.

I suppose I am a bit on the other side of the fence from you. I kind of like to try and look the best I/we can. 43 year old men with grey hair are not necessarily gonna pull this off to well always though.

But in the end poor musicianship can’t be hidden by either type of look.

its not the anti fashon card, i dress up and look nice when appropriate. theres nothing wrong with looking nice. i can dress feminine and feel good about myself without having to look like a streetwalker. i go to alot of high end functions and places where i have to dress up and fit in. i just wear some long sleeve lace to cover up the tattoos, and no one is the wiser. i'm just saying there is a line where dressing up and showing some femininity and looking like a tramp comes into play. there recently ewas a picture posted of a women in a band that was definately showing too much. i dont care to see peoples genitals hanging out, ok?
as far as my band being different, we just are! we come from all different styles and backgrounds, we managed to blend all of our styles and came up with something really unique that people seem to like. i wouldnt play in a emo band for instance just because thats what people think mtv wants. i know what i like. i play what sounds good to me, if other people like it, then i am doing my job. a bunch of times, i've been told by people," you have to play more commercial music, because thats what the radio is playing" my response is always the same. i want to be the next band that people say' i want to sound like THAT" i refuse to pump out 3 new songs every practice just to pump out songs. i put thought and feeling behind my music. it takes me a while to write a song. unfortunately though, i hear too much of those people just wanting the next ATREYU, HAWTHORNE HEIGHTS, OR PANIC AT THE DISCO.
in short, i'm happy who i am, i am happy with life, and i dont feel that i have to be fake to fit in. i'm just me.

It is interesting to hear how Emo gets crapped on so much. It isn’t typically my favourite kind of music although I am sure I could name a few songs I liked. But like anything fashionable it almost becomes an albatross around your neck if you unfortunate enough to like it or want to play it. It may well be that many of the bands who are playing do it because they like the genre. I wonder how many bands actually start playing their instruments or jamming together a style of music with the sole objective of getting on MTV. Or how many that do succeed at it.

I saw a doco on heavy metal where they interviewed Warrant about Cherry Pie. Apparently they were told to get a single on the album and they came up with that over night. They all hated it but bunged it on the album like good little boys. They claim that the rest of the album was nothing like that but I wonder how many people like me dismissed them on the strength of that single and never gave them another listen. They regret it to this day. Despite the fleeting windfall that single may have been for them they lost or did not get to the majority of people who may have like the rest of their music and perhaps supported them for far longer.

pardon me... i mentioned emo as a example of a current fad of music. i'm talking about the hoards of bands out at this moment...maybe its just where i live and congregate that i see this, but they are a fleeting fad. daddy and mommy buy them a mesa boogie and a gibson guitar, maybe they take a couple of lessons here and there. then they start up a band where all they play is afi or blink 182 covers for a while. mommy and daddy give them the money to play a venue, since most places in cali are pay to play now...then, they write a couple of their own songs, again, mommy and daddy pay for their demo, they dont even go out and promote the band. its all about i've got money. then they place an ad in the paper looking for a "lead guitarist between ages 18-25, must have looks and style" BOOM! in a year, they are already signed to at least a indie label. they purt out one album, and POOF! theyre gone. just like that. the gibson and the boogie are sold or gather dust in the closet, while they go off to the next fad. you see, once thety get signed, they realize that they cant just sit around and let everyone else pay for shit, they have to work! and they are gone!
i cant tell you how many band members ive gone through trying to find serious musicians! no drugs, no boozing, just hard working musicians that work for their fame.
as far as the whore business, i'm talking about these girls that have been ridden more times than seattle slew, flaunt it, model with a guitar, and make us real musicians look bad. people see a lady with a guitar, and i've heartd this before" put your boyfriends guitar down" i just laugh and get on stage!
i'm not trying to run a cross-x debate here, i just think it sucks when people look down on you because you dont have the right LOOK as a musician. i just dont deserve to be ridiculed since i dont get on stage in spiked heels, mini skirt, and see through blouse

Sorry, but you are in fact reading things into my statement that are not there.

No question was contained in my statement. I merely noted that I personally did not know what she was doing up there. That's not the same as asking why she would be up there. Had I intended to ask such a question, you can be sure it would have ended in a question mark (some of us still use punctuation, capitalization, etc.).

You're inferring something that was not intended to be implied.

Yeah, that's about what I paid for my Sunn 200S stock, iirc it was $300 including shipping, which was probably at least $25 as heavy as it is.

Nice Talman. I wonder if it's a re-fin, never seen one in that color (though it could be the lighting).

The SY website has like a million guitars on it. They use so many different tunings they are always switching guitars.

I was wondering the same thing. I've seen that LP Custom-knockoff inlay on more than one brand. The script looks a bit like "Edwards" which is my best guess, but it sure hard to tell.

Speaking of Gainesville girls, these rather unfocused lasses (well, their photo anyhow) are a new GVL band called Cadence:

If you look closely I believe there's a Takamine and a bass in there.

There've been a few pics of them at various points in the thread. The gogo boots are a bit much but you gotta luv them axes.

Not to worry. At the gargantuan length of this thread (someday my tombstone will read "Brian Krashpad: Husband, Father, Lawyer, Rocker-- And Original Poster of the GalsNGuitars Thread on HCGF") I don't expect anyone to check for prior posts.

Here's what she had to say about your pic and that SG:

I wish I had never sold
that gibson V.
I couldn't play it sitting down so...who knew.
I got the SG in Korea when I played there with the
rosies.
never heard of the brand but it is called SMASH by
Swing.
I love that guitar. it cost me $250 US dollars.
I don't think they sell them in US.
