Obviously, it's 2 girls back to back, you can see the big black boots the girl behind is wearing, in addition to her arm.

That's the M-75T model she has, AFAIK. Damn, I'd have killed for the blue sparkle one of those, but i never did find a lefty. Such a shame Fender bumped that line off (they could at least have had the decency to produce everything left handed and wait til i could afford to buy a bundle before they did!! :( ).

Yeah, I guess she does have the M-75T. The M65-C was a similar shape but much cheaper.

Thanks for posting this. When I first saw it I didn't recognize who she was I just really noticed because she was so hot looking. So I right clicked on it to see what her name was and I was like "Rana... and she plays bass." How cool I knew this girl when I was out in Cali going to GIT. I only knew her for a few months, and that was almost 20 years ago, but some of the things I remembered about her was that she was almost always smiling, and she was one of the only people out there who wasn't trying to use you for something. She was really nice.

So I did a search on her and found her web site http://www.bassgirl.com and was really feeling happy for her cause it looked like she was doing really well as far as her career. Well to make a long story less long, I stumbled across a memorial site for her. Aparently she had passed away early in 2003 while she was in the process of recording a solo album.

I pulled this from her site -
"yesterday is a dream, tomorrow but a vision - but today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness, and every tomorrow a vision of hope. look well, therefore, to this day" - sanskit proverb

I loved that film.

They geuinely did learn to play their instruments for the three or so "Pussycats" songs that are on the soundtrack to the film - that's all them playing. Or so the blurb goes..... though having seen the extras on the DVD (which I'm proud to say I own :D) I reckon that's a legit claim. :)

Go back and read the very first post in the thread though.

The point of the thread is not about who's "hot" looking, it's about gals with the cohones to get up and play when a lot of guys (and probably some other girls as well) are still going be critical of them just because they're not guys and doing something non-traditional.

Hotness in a physical sense is really not the point.

Kim Gordon. It feels like that name should ring a bell. Unfortunately it doesn't. Who is she and what is she known for?

Bassist/vocalist for Sonic Youth.

Think NYC and heroin and you're in the ballpark.

The Internet is a wonderful thing.

I do searches for punk girls or rock girls, et voila!

Occasionally the girls are people in bands I know or admire, or even friends or acquaintances of mine. But mainly I just go hunting for pics. It's not that hard.

Ah, Sonic Youth. I knew that. For some strange reason I just kept thinking Kim Deal/The Pixies when I read that name. I guess it's time to go to bed. :bor:

Maybe just a hard life and age. She is 52 this day. Off course, if the pics are 10 years old then I don't think age is a sufficient explanation.

WHoa! I didn't actually notice his shirt until you pointed it out!

That calls for an edit!

It would make sense seing how the band she's playing with in that shot is a GoGos Cover band named the gay gays (seriously)

Yeah I got hip to her when I moved to Bangor, ME. She grew up about 10 minutes away in Old Town, ME. When I first went to the local record store I heard people talking about how Patty Grifin was just in...and I was like...who?

But she is great. I have Flaming Red and 1,000 Kisses (both great CDs BTW).

I looked through all the live shots on her site and there isn't a single one of her playing guitar.

I saw her play support to Steve Vai in Adelaide when she was 15. She came on again at then end of his show and played a song with him. She has also been to pay with Carlos who she sites as a major influence. Fringe needs work, thats all.:D

hey..they play those guys on mtv and the radio here all the time.

they seem like ok people. she's got a nice voice and their video is cool. they do a lot with stopping and filming in reverse in it. :D

the song gets stuck in my head. (it's very poppy. )

The real hype is already gone here. Lasted for a week only, but when I went to berlin in november some german guys I met there told me to get more into them. It's not very impressive guitarwork, but it's cool, poppy in a nice way.

Nice guitar.... that an ivory studio? I always swore I'd never pay out for the Gibson label, but a used studio in that finish could be very tempting....

Haha, intentional, of course.

Speaking of cute locals, here's local singer Mama Trish with formerly local (now in Tampa) radio DJ Lauren:

http://myspace-162.vo.llnwd.net/00474/26/13/474563162_l.jpg

Lauren used to tend bar at a club I play a lot. Actually at two successive clubs I play/ed a lot.

I once gave her a back rub.

<sigh>
