View Full Version : Cancelled My Larrivee Order

Rada

I've been going to NAMM for a few years now, but this was my first time I actually stopped at the Larrivee "booth" and talked to the people and played the guitars.....

What jerks!!! All the guys in their cheap suits were on their blue tooth phones, eating or just talking to eachother rather than talking to people....

Snooty little pricks....

After several minutes a guy finally came over to talk to me, and wasn't even interested in talking to me about his products! He was more interested in getting my phone number....I speak enough French so that he could perfectly understand me when I told him to go fuck himself

I cancelled my order for a Larrivee OM-60SBT and I'm never buying Larrivee again if those are the people running the place

You should send them an email letting them know what happened. Could have been a bad bunch working for a good company.

You should know by the reply you get if they are worth considering doing business with in the future.

Haha...well, I guess I can't get TOO upset

No, and it's not like it was a "I can't stand you Americans" kind of snooty....no one ever thinks I'm American anyway. All the "foreign" booths always speak to me in Italian, Spanish, or Portuguese. Those Larrivee guys are just all around jerks, I'm sticking with Godin from now on....they don't use as much abalone and they're switching to all solid wood this year anyway :thu:

I didn't get the same reception at summer NAMM. You may have caught them at a busy time? Also consider that it is indeed a "Merchant" show and they aren't there to peddle onsey-twoseys, but rather to pick up some dealers and show off their trade.

I don't blame you for being angry though as I hate jerks too!

Rada, i'm sorry you had a bad experience... its too bad, i think you would have enjoyed that guitar...

i also can't blame you for not feeling compelled to make any further contact with them... regardless of who you were talking to. In life in general, and especially in business you often only get one shot at impressions... anybody wearing their logo should have treated you with some class.

To bad, because they do make a nice guitar.

Maybe the Larrivee folks sized you up first and decided among themselves that they didn't want to sell anything to a whinny-ass like you.

since NAMM I've asked people about the Larrivee folks, and they don't really have nice things to say about them other than the guitars are fantastic. After owning one and almost purchasing another, I can certainly agree....but I don't think I'll be owning another in this or any other lifetime :(

They do seem to be going through some growing pains. It seems to have coincided with the move to California. According to their website, somebody just up and stole their web server which has had an impact on their email service.

I've heard a few negative testimonials lately about quality & customer service but it's not scaring me off a potential 03 series purchase (still made in the Vancouver factory) just yet. Now if they went and started acting like Gibson has lately, then I'd be concerned.

Ok. Someone's gotta say it, may as well be me:

Is it right to judge a company and it's products by the attitude of the reps at a trade show?

I think that'd be like judging a plumber by whether or not the crack of his ass shows when he's working on the pipes.

And I'm not gonna stop buying their guitars based on that. He and most other CEOs don't build the guitars. They just talk about 'em. Joe Noname is back there carving the braces, sanding the tops, bending the sides.

I happen to think Joe's doing a fine job for Larri and Marti.

oh yeah, i hear ya on that JT... the CEOs just need to make sure they still have people to build the guitars FOR... thats all. My confidence in larrivee as a guitar maker hasn't faltered.

Rada,

I fully understand you. Jerks also make me completly lose faith in a company or a store. The fact that the person was a Larrivee does kind of explain things though. This person just works for the company because they were born in the family....probably not for their abilities. It is hard to keep your trust in a company (as a name, not their product) after an experience like this. Maybe if the person you would have talked to was a Bill Smith, a Pierre Lapointe or an other unrelated person to the Larrivee your experience would have been different. But still, their reason for being at NAMM is marketing and they really failed on that !

I'm also in the market for a new guitar and really looking at the Larrivee D-03R. The Norman ST-68 is also really interesting. I really prefer rosewood over mohagany and would want all solid wood. Being left handed my choices are more limited as Godin does not offer all models in lefty....no Seagull artist for me :(. I did not know they were going to all solid wood construction....that is great news !!! Do you when this should happen ? I might just wait on my purchase !

The Norman ST68 IS Rosewood and it will be coming out in all solid wood soon along with the ST40 and B50 I believe....you can get the Simon & Patrick SC Rosewood now with all solid woods. I played it at NAMM and was very impressed....I didn't like it more than my ST68 (w/laminate sides) but that's just me

And about Larrivee....I know not everyone that works for them is bad. Their factory is up the street from my house, and I've been there several times and loved the actual builders and employees....they were very nice. But let's face it, they aren't the ones getting the money. The suits are, and it's the Larrivee suits that I don't like. I don't want them with my money when I can get these newer Godins that are just as great from people that are very very kind. I mean, Robert Godin shook my hand and talked to me personally, and everyone there I've come into contact with has been more than helpful and nice.....their customer service is top notch too

To me it's not contest as to which company will be getting my money, support and respect....

I mean, the Martin guys were nicer than the Larrivee folks!!!

Dont let their attitute stop you from buying a guitar , they've always been like that- i remember visiting the Larrivee booth at the Maraposia Folk festival outside of Toronto about 20 plus years ago , and they were the same then! except at that time their guitars were mediocre in sound, and when i went home I decided to order my Greven because his guitars sounded better and he was a better Craftsman ( fantastic Inlay Artist )- , thou Jeans Inlay work was outstanding , they didnt have the tone or sound they have now - still wouldnt trade my Greven in on one thou ! I know their snobs but Im betting theirs a few of them at the Martin factory as well as other makers !

One of life's mysteries is why a large portion of Canadians want to label themselves as French? It's a bit like Americans wanting to be thought of as English.

Oh, and by the way, in Quebec, we eat poutine and drink beer! In France they eat cheese and bread and they drink wine.

You are from NY right? Well try reading about what is going on north of you and you will find out that a lot of people speak french and are proud of it. They also have nothing to do with people from France like you don't have anything to do with the English.
But what i was trying to say to the drunk aussie is that the bad service from Larrivée as nothing to do with being french, actually the last time i went to a Larrivée booth nobody spoke french.

I also get tired of people putting evrybody in the same pot, as an american you must understand that.

I think not. I think the notion that stereotypes are all born purely to prejudice is itself mentally lazy. Clearly there are traits peculiar to certain groups of people, and the fact that currently it is politically unpopular to recognize that fact does not make it any less a fact. I'm not talking about the French here, and I'm not talking strictly about negative traits, either. Example: I'm a Jew, and I happen to be pretty smart but I suck ass at sports. Go figure. Ultimately I'm just saying maybe we could all stand to grow a freakin' sense of humor and stop acting like we have some kind of obligation to be offended by every cultural generalization - particularly when uttered tongue-in-cheek.

Rada, so sorry for hijacking your thread...

I read your post but just because you write it doesn't mean I believe it. Instead of being a lesbian you could be a middle aged fat guy with a bad combover and too much time on your hands.(that's funny right there, I don't care who you are) Anyway, my post was meant in good humor. I didn't intend to offend you, or anyone else. BTW, I'm not stupid and I haven't had a head injury....but I do have intermittent memory loss:eek:  What were we talking about????

I have 3 Larrivees...one OM-Lite, one L-Lite and an OM-01...love em all to bits and couldn`t be happier.
Never met any of the Larrivee family so I can`d add anything to that slander, and since we`re speaking of French, they have the same French Canadian roots as I have...but in my case my mom is a British war bride, not sure about Mrs. Larrivee though.

I did some digging: the French chick turned 21 last summer.

No comment on the lipsyncing, I'll just admit that the song sucks and the Gibb brother wannabe bozos with their Taks in the background just add an additional layer of CHEESE.

As for Shakira, she amy have the moves but I gotta listen to her with the sound muted too.

Watching Shakira with sound is like analyzing the plot in a porn flick. The sound is just kind of incidental.

Actually, that would be the soundtrack, not the plot. Then your analogy is perfect.

Analyzing one of my similes is like scrutinizing the plot in a Shakira video... except that my similes are significantly less entertaining... although my soundtracks are better... IMO...

:thu: That's what I thought...the average AG thread has about four or five replies...I looked at this one when it first came out and passed, but after resisting for days I had to look again to see what's going on.

Oh, and by way of comparison, a comparatively long thread on the GJ forum (say a couple of hundred posts, since the average thread there is longer), is usually titled, "hottest woman guitar player" or "hottest woman in Hollywood."

Here it's, "Canceled my Larrivee order". Hmmm.:D :D
